A Mother's Instinct

Note to Readers: No judgment for what I am about to tell you.

I enjoy a Lifetime movie every once in awhile.

I'm not talking about the cheesy made-up storyline flicks, but ones based on true stories. I happened to watch one last night, and I can't stop thinking about it. It's called The Delimar Vera Story, and you can read more about what really happened here. Basically, Delimar Vera was ten days old when she died in her crib in a house fire started by a faulty extension cord, or so her mother thought. Fast forward six years later, and the mother randomly sees a young girl at a birthday party. She looks at her and instinctually knows it is her daughter. Telling the little girl she has bubble gum in her hair, she pretends to remove it, and pulls a few strands to save them. Mind you, this woman (at the time) barely spoke any English but she had seen enough "American crime shows" to know that you needed hair to get DNA. Miraculously, the mother is right! The little girl at the party IS the daughter she thought had died. An ex-wife of a distant cousin set fire to her house years before to cover up taking the little girl. (the kidnapper is now in prison) Mother and daughter are reunited and begin their lives together again.

Can you imagine?

Isn't that an amazing story?

I do believe in a mother's instinct. I remember before I had Ellis, that even though I had read some books, and thought I had a plan, I soon realized that putting those ideas into action PLUS trusting my mother's instinct was the happiest solution for most problems.

Sometimes mothers just know things...

like getting upset over messes is silly and fruitless,

little boys that have beautiful hair eventually do have to get haircuts,

and may need a little candy to get them through,

getting appliances like a hand vac for Christmas is no big deal, (though there may or may not be a message connected with that gift :) )
heels and gardening tools can go together,
I couldn't do it without this guy, love you Kent!
little boys ideas may be ingenious
but must be stopped before they occur,
of course, not before you take a picture, (do you see what is about to happen here?!)
Edible Arrangements are better when shared, (and are a great Mother's Day surprise!)

and finally,

Children are always a welcome blessing!

Kent and I are so so thankful for the news of a new precious bundle. Baby number four is coming November 2011. (we are really spacing them this time, a new Mitchell record! a whole 18 months apart!)

Thank you, God, for motherhood.

Congrats, you guys! I love it! And you will love them all so close together more and more as they get older. I promise! How are you feeling?
